Antihistamines like Benadryl, Allegra, and Claritin may prevent coronavirus infection by blocking histamine receptor HRH1, inhibiting virus entry.

Antihistamine drugs, such as Benadryl, Allegra, and Claritin, may prevent coronavirus infection, according to a study published by the American Society of Microbiology Journals. The study revealed that histamine receptor HRH1 serves as an alternative entry point for the virus, interacting with the spike protein and enhancing viral entry in conjunction with hACE2. By blocking HRH1, antihistamines disrupt this interaction, thus inhibiting infection from various SARS-CoV-2 variants.
