62-year-old Detroit man Christopher Edward Vaquera drowned in White Lake Township on 6 July after falling out of a boat. Vaquera was standing up to get a beverage when he lost balance and plunged into the lake. His brother threw a flotation device, but Vaquera couldn't stay afloat. Two kayakers pulled him ashore, but paramedics couldn't revive him at the scene. Neither man was wearing life jackets, and alcohol appears to have been a factor.
