Invasive Spotted Lanternfly discovered in Monroe County, Michigan by MDARD, posing a threat to plant life.

The invasive Spotted Lanternfly, a species threatening plant life, has been discovered in Monroe County, Michigan by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Native to Southwestern Asia, this is the second time it has been identified in the state, first appearing in Pontiac in 2022. The species, Lycorma delicatula, feeds on vegetation and fruit trees, and produces a sticky substance that can promote sooty mold growth, harming plants.
