A 40-foot-wide sinkhole resurfaced in Marion County, Iowa, near Knoxville. Initially, it was thought to be due to a limestone mine owned by S&S Quarries, but further investigation revealed a coal mine beneath the pit. S&S Quarries' General Manager, Gail Helmick, now believes the coal mine is responsible, and if confirmed, the federal government could provide grant money for repairs.
