Chad has become the 51st nation to eliminate human African trypanosomiasis, or sleeping sickness, a milestone for the World Health Organization's (WHO) program targeting neglected tropical diseases. The disease is caused by parasites and spread through the bite of the tsetse fly. The WHO aims to eliminate such diseases, which disproportionately affect poor and rural populations, in 100 nations.
