Aberdeen council worker Michael Paterson, 59, was jailed for four years after embezzling over £1m from Aberdeen City Council over a 17-year period. Paterson, a council tax and recovery team leader, exploited his position to fraudulently issue council tax refunds into his own bank account, totaling £1,087,444.47. He was caught after a colleague noticed an unusual refund in September last year.
