100 middle school teams from across the US competed in the American Rocketry Challenge in The Plains, Virginia. Sponsored by the Defense Department, NASA, FAA and top US defense contractors, the contest required students to build a rocket, carrying an egg, to reach maximum altitude without the egg breaking. Students from war-torn countries also participated, finding a safe haven in the US.
