250-year mystery solved: a piano believed to be the first made in America is now at Sigal Music Museum in Greenville. Builder John Berent, originally from Dutch/Saxony, studied piano building in London and Portugal before creating this unique instrument in 1775. Despite placing a 1776 advertisement, it's likely he made only this one piano before joining the Continental Army and dying in 1780.
