10 people, including two sisters in intensive care, were treated for botulism after consuming home-canned nopales (cactus pads) at a family gathering in California. The Fresno County Department of Public Health stated this was the first foodborne botulism outbreak they had encountered. One sister underwent a tracheostomy due to respiratory complications. All other hospitalized individuals have been released, and there have been no new reported cases.
