The Maharashtra government tabled a bill, "Maharashtra Competitive Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024," in the state legislative assembly to prevent malpractices in competitive exams. The bill includes provisions for a jail term of up to five years and a fine of up to ₹10 lakh for those found guilty of unfair means. Offences related to the conduct of exams will be cognizable, non-bailable, and non-compoundable. The act aims to bring greater transparency, fairness, and credibility to examinations.
