Van Mayor Tammy Huff confirmed the termination of Police Chief Melissa Davis by City Manager John Desha on Monday, July 1. The Van City Council held a closed session to discuss Davis's dismissal but took no action, voting to table the matter until their next meeting on July 11. Davis was reportedly fired after refusing to fine victims of graffiti and instead organizing community clean-up efforts.
