Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) Chief of Staff, Ryo Sakai, plans to resign over unauthorized access to classified national security information by unqualified MSDF personnel on over 10 vessels. Some senior officers are reported to have ignored the situation. The alleged breaches could have occurred for almost a decade. Sakai has informed Defense Minister Minoru Kihara of his decision.
