Illinois will replace the SAT with the ACT for state assessments starting next spring.
Illinois plans to switch to the ACT exam for state assessments starting next spring, replacing the SAT. The change will affect high school students taking their annual state tests, and the results will be used for federal mandates under the Every Student Succeeds Act. Illinois began using the SAT with Essay as the state assessment in 2017, followed by the PSAT 8/9 for ninth graders and the PSAT 10 for sophomores.
