Ukraine's army has retreated from a neighborhood in the outskirts of Chasiv Yar, a strategically important town in the eastern Donetsk region, as Russia advances. Chasiv Yar lies west of Bakhmut, which was captured by Russia last year. If Russian forces take full control of Chasiv Yar, they could potentially use it as a staging post to advance westwards towards major Ukrainian cities.
