An off-duty Suffolk County police officer, William Parmenter, rescued a fisherman, Norman Orsinger, 66, after receiving a mayday call regarding an injured person in the Atlantic Ocean. Orsinger was bleeding from both legs due to a fishhook injury while attempting to catch a yellowfin tuna. Parmenter, a paramedic, boarded the victim's boat and applied tourniquets before contacting the US Coast Guard and Suffolk County Police Department Aviation Section for further assistance.
