China rejected Western calls for human-rights reforms in Hong Kong and Xinjiang at a UN meeting, but accepted recommendations from allies. The U.N. Human Rights Council session in Geneva concluded a review process in which Beijing sought to address criticism following a 2022 U.N. report suggesting that the detention of Uyghurs and other Muslims in China's Xinjiang region may constitute crimes against humanity. China denies any abuses.
