42-year-old Salem teacher Darren Benedick was arrested and charged with child enticement and dissemination of harmful material to minors after arranging to meet an underage girl for a sexual encounter in a sting operation. Benedick, who teaches at Salem Academy Charter School, was unaware he was communicating with an undercover officer monitoring a "teens-only" chat room. The arrest was made by Newbury police with assistance from the Salem Police Department.
