89-year-old Oscar-winning screenwriter Robert Towne, known for his work on "Chinatown", "The Last Detail", and "Shampoo", has passed away at his Los Angeles home. Towne, whose work helped define the "jaded allure" of Los Angeles, won an Academy Award for his screenplay for "Chinatown" in 1974 and received nominations for three other Oscars. He also wrote or co-wrote films starring Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty, among others.
