Unelected state bureaucrats are considering raising California's gas taxes in secret, adding an estimated 47 cents to prices at the pump next year and 52 cents in 2026. The increases would come from tightening the Low Carbon Fuel Standard program, raising taxes to $1.92 next year and $1.97 in 2026. Californians already pay $1.43 in state and federal taxes and fees per gallon of gasoline.
