Port Talbot's historic Blast Furnace 5, operating since 1959, will shut down by Friday as part of Tata Steel UK's restructure. The furnace's closure will produce loud noises and large plumes of steam visible above the steelworks. Port Talbot's other furnace will end production of liquid iron in September, preceding the construction of a greener electric arc furnace next year.
