Nigerian governors support fiscal federalism for minimum wage, proposing N57,000 instead of N62,000.
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji said that Nigerian governors are not against paying a living wage to workers, but they support fiscal federalism that allows individual states to pay the minimum wage they can afford. The NGF insisted that most states cannot afford the N62,000 proposed by the tripartite committee and urged the government to set the new minimum wage at N57,000. The NLC, however, described the governors' interference in minimum wage negotiations as unconstitutional.
