2024 H1: India's solar power generation growth slows, coal surpasses renewable energy output.

India's solar power generation experienced its slowest growth in six years during the first half of 2024, according to data from the federal grid regulator. The country has increased its reliance on coal to meet rising power demand; coal-fired power output surpassed renewable energy output in 2022 for the first time since the Paris accord in 2015. Solar power generation in India reached 63.6 billion kilowatt-hours in the first half of 2024, up 14.7% from the same period in 2023.
