South Africa's National Assembly defers JSC member designation, including impeached judge John Hlophe, due to consultation needs.
South Africa's National Assembly has deferred the designation of members for the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) due to further consultation needs. The MK Party nominated impeached former judge president of the Western Cape, John Hlophe, for a seat on the JSC, which oversees judge appointments, investigates complaints about judicial officers, and advises the government on matters related to the judiciary or the administration of justice. Hlophe was impeached earlier this year for gross misconduct after attempting to sway two Constitutional Court justices in favor of MK leader Jacob Zuma.
