Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla amended Rule 389 to restrict MPs from adding slogans during oath-taking.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has amended Rule 389 to restrict newly elected MPs from adding slogans or additional words before or after taking their oath or affirmation. This change follows recent incidents where some MPs raised slogans such as "Jai Palestine" and "Jai Hindu Rashtra" during oath-taking. The amended rule requires MPs to adhere to the form set out in the Third Schedule to the Constitution of India.
