Canada appoints its first female Chief of Defence Staff, Lt.-Gen. Jennie Carignan, who previously held the position of military's chief of professional conduct and culture. The federal government's decision follows a series of sexual misconduct scandals that led to several high-ranking officials stepping down. Carignan will officially take up her role on July 18, succeeding General Wayne Eyre.
