Virginia DMV new laws include eliminating the option to pay a fee instead of maintaining vehicle insurance by July 1, 2024, and ending the Uninsured Motor Vehicle (UMV) fee collection. All vehicles registered in Virginia must obtain an insurance policy meeting Virginia's liability limits. DMV-issued permanent placards are required for unregistered farm use panel trucks, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles.
