University of Cambridge study finds whole genome sequencing enhances pediatric cancer care, improving immediate care for 7% and providing additional info in 29% of cases.

A study led by the University of Cambridge suggests that whole genome sequencing (WGS) can significantly enhance pediatric cancer care, improving immediate clinical care for 7% of children, and providing additional information in 29% of cases. WGS offers a detailed insight into rare cancers, which can reveal novel variants, and has the potential to replace multiple tests currently used by the NHS. The study supports the use of WGS as part of routine clinical care for children with suspected cancer.
