Michigan State Police and local law enforcement agencies are increasing speed enforcement in July due to an 8.7% rise in speed-related crashes in 2022 compared to 2021. The month-long operation, funded by federal highway safety funding, aims to save lives and change risky driving behaviors, including speeding. In 2022, 26,700 speed-related crashes occurred in Michigan, and 12,151 fatal crashes nationwide involved speeding drivers.
