Arkansas progressive groups decide not to seek US Supreme Court review of lower court's ruling preventing private groups from suing under Voting Rights Act section.

Arkansas progressive groups, including the Arkansas Public Policy Panel and Arkansas State Conference NAACP, have decided not to ask the US Supreme Court to review a lower court's ruling that prevents private groups from suing under a key section of the Voting Rights Act. They did not file a petition by the deadline to review the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' ruling. Legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arkansas, John Williams, said the decision not to seek review does not signal agreement with the court ruling, but they believe there is another mechanism for private groups to sue under federal civil rights law.
