In Dunedin, three intoxicated teenagers, aged 15 and 16, attempted to steal a neighbour's pigeon twice after climbing over a fence and breaking into a coop. Police were called to the scene after a neighbour reported the incident. The pigeon was initially returned, but the youths stole it again. Upon arriving at the property, officers discovered the youths pretending to be asleep in a garage; one of them had the pigeon hidden under a blanket.
