Sen. Bob Menendez's sister, Caridad Gonzalez, testified at his bribery trial, stating that it was "a Cuban thing" for her family to keep large amounts of cash at home. Gonzalez, 80, was called by Menendez's defense team to argue that the hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash found in his residence during a raid was not unusual for someone with Cuban heritage, as her parents and aunt continued the practice of storing money after moving to the US.
