The Vatican has issued new rules for employees of St. Peter's Basilica, banning visible tattoos or body piercings to maintain "decorum". The regulation applies to the Fabbrica di San Pietro department, affecting around 170 lay employees. The Vatican also requires staff to have "an exemplary religious and moral conduct, including in private and family life, in conformity with the doctrine of the Church".
