US Marine Corps rebuilt Peleliu island's WWII runway for potential US basing against China.

US Marine Corps rebuilt a runway on the Pacific island of Peleliu, site of a bloody WWII battle. A KC-130 Hercules transport aircraft landed on the 6,000-ft runway, which had been reconstructed by Marine engineers over months. The island, part of Palau, may be a potential US basing option in countering China. Over 1,500 US troops and nearly 11,000 Japanese were killed on Peleliu between August and November 1944.
