Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) retains the 15-day police custody provision like the IPC, dispelling rumors of an extended remand period. The BNS, which came into force on Monday, also allows remand to be taken in parts, ensuring up to 60 days can be utilized for interrogation. The first case registered under BNS occurred in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
