2015 Undercover Policing Inquiry to examine Metropolitan Police's Special Demonstration Squad (SDS) spying on campaign groups from 1983-1992.
The Undercover Policing Inquiry's next phase, starting with 3-day opening statements, will examine the Metropolitan Police's Special Demonstration Squad (SDS) between 1983-1992, following a report that found it should have been disbanded earlier. The SDS and its successor unit spied on hundreds of campaign groups over four decades, costing £82M so far. The inquiry, set up in 2015 by Theresa May, is expected to conclude by 2026, pending sufficient funding.
