Shanghai Opera House presents a new production, "March of the Volunteers," in honor of Shanghai's artistic wartime explosion in the 1930s. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, young revolutionaries created art forms like songs, dramas, and movies to encourage national resistance. Songwriter Nie Er and poet Tian Han composed the iconic "March of the Volunteers" in 1935, which later became China's national anthem.
