2022 saw a 4% annual increase in juvenile crime levels in Ireland, with theft, robbery, fraud, and sexual offenses experiencing sharp rises, according to new Garda records. The Garda Youth Diversion Programme (GYDP) received 15,719 crime-involved incidents involving over 8,400 young offenders aged 12-17. The GYDP aims to divert young offenders from the court system and is considering extending its services to include 18-24-year-olds.
