Rio Tinto receives first ELYSIS tech license to deploy carbon-free aluminium smelting cells at its Arvida smelter in Quebec, Canada. A new joint venture between Rio Tinto and the Government of Quebec invests $179M and $106M respectively, for a total investment of $285M. The demonstration plant will have a production capacity of up to 2,500 tonnes of commercial-quality aluminium annually without direct greenhouse gas emissions.
