Researchers found a way to convert white fat cells into calorie-burning beige fat using a method targeting protein KLF15.
Researchers at UC San Francisco discovered a method to convert ordinary white fat cells, which store calories, into beige fat cells that burn calories to maintain body temperature. By limiting the production of a protein called KLF15, white fat cells could be converted into beige fat, opening the door to developing a new class of weight-loss drugs and possibly explaining why drug trials related to this therapy have not been successful.
