A new report by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) reveals that hospital patients are being left to die alone due to nursing staff shortages. The RCN survey indicates only a third of shifts have sufficient registered nurses, with many nurses caring for dozens of patients at once. The RCN calls for safety-critical limits on the maximum number of patients a single nurse can be responsible for, as numerous nurses express demoralization from being unable to keep patients safe.
