NIH study shows umbilical cord milking for non-vigorous infants does not increase neurodevelopmental impairment risk.

A National Institutes of Health (NIH) study found umbilical cord milking for non-vigorous infants does not increase neurodevelopmental impairment risk. The study, involving 1,000 full-term & near-term infants, compared cord milking to early cord clamping for resuscitation. Results indicate cord milking is a safe alternative for moving blood to infants quickly, with no increased risk of brain injury or delays in term infants.
