New Zealand Defence Force staff suffer mental harm in LSV youth program; Ministry of Social Development and NZDF collaborate to address issues.
New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) staff suffered serious mental harm, including suicidal ideation, due to issues in a boot camp-style course for at-risk youth. The program, known as the Limited Service Volunteer (LSV) scheme, has experienced increased physical assaults on staff and challenges in dealing with trainees with more complex needs. The Ministry of Social Development and NZDF are now working together to address these issues.
