London Northwestern Railway plans to introduce new direct train links between London and Manchester by 2026, using the West Coast Main Line. If approved, the new service would connect Rugeley, Lichfield, Tamworth, and Atherstone in the West Midlands to Manchester city centre and Warrington, using Class 730 electric trains. A decision on the proposal will be made by the Department for Transport and the Office of Rail and Road.
