On July 1, 2024, Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth assumed command of the Indian Army's Southern Command, succeeding Lt Gen Ajai Kumar Singh.

Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth took over as the 51st General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Pune-based Southern Command of the Indian Army on July 1, 2024, succeeding Lt Gen Ajai Kumar Singh who superannuated after 40 years of service. Seth, an NDA and IMA alumnus, has served in various key positions and with the UN Angola Verification Mission. Southern Command experienced significant infrastructure development under Singh's leadership.
