Delhi court sentences activist Medha Patkar to five months of imprisonment in a 23-year-old defamation case filed by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Patkar. The offence entailed a maximum punishment of simple imprisonment of up to two years or fine or both. Patkar's sentence was suspended for one month to allow her to file an appeal against the order.
