South Korea's SK Hynix plans to invest $75 billion (103 trillion won) in chips through 2028, mainly focusing on high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips optimized for use with Nvidia Corp.'s artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators. The plan comes after SK Group's Chairman Chey Tae-won and top executives held annual strategy meetings discussing future growth. SK Group aims to strengthen its AI value chain leadership, from AI services to AI infrastructure, while also investing in data center businesses. The group plans to secure 80 trillion won by 2026 for investments in AI and semiconductors, alongside funding shareholder returns and streamlining its more than 175 subsidiaries.
