1987 IAS officer Sujata Saunik becomes Maharashtra's first female Chief Secretary, succeeding Nitin Kareer.

Sujata Saunik, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1987 batch, becomes the first woman to be appointed as Maharashtra's Chief Secretary. Saunik takes over from Nitin Kareer, who retires, and will have a one-year tenure until June 2023. Saunik previously served as the Additional Chief Secretary in the Home Department and has over three decades of experience in public policy and governance.
