Prince George's County, Maryland plans to hire 150 new firefighters by 2025 to address its staff shortage of 251 career firefighters causing $30M in overtime expenses. Despite this, cities including Greenbelt, Berwyn Heights and College Park have sued, arguing that staffing changes would increase response times and endanger lives. The county aims to reach 1,224 firefighters and reallocate staff to reduce overtime and evenly distribute resources.
