Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced former New Brunswick Liberal MLA Victor Boudreau's appointment as an independent senator by Governor General Julie Payette. Boudreau, who served as MLA from 2004 to 2018, held cabinet portfolios such as health and finance, and was opposition leader. His appointment fills the vacancy left by Senator Percy Mockler's retirement this spring.
