Prime Minister Trudeau appoints Lt.-Gen. Jennie Carignan as Canada's first female Chief of Defence Staff.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has selected Lt.-Gen. Jennie Carignan as Canada's first female Chief of the Defence Staff, succeeding General Wayne Eyre. She has a strong military background, including leading NATO's mission in Iraq and participating in crisis operations in Quebec. Carignan will officially take up her duties during a change-of-command ceremony on July 18 at the Canadian War Museum.
